Aquaborn birth pool from Aquabub

Aquaborn Eco Birth Pool

It’s been a while since I last updated here and lots has changed since my last post back in August 2010!! In September Aquabub underwent a restructure and is now focussed primarily on inflatable birth pools for sale and for hire, as well as a small range of products for pregnancy and labour. Our quality brands of baby carriers (Manduca, Kozy Carrier and Storchenwiege) and our range of Baltic amber teething necklaces and jewellery now have a new home over at My Natural Baby Ltd which is our new business which launched on 1 September 2010. So Aquabub has returned to it’s beginnings as the business started out with just one la bassine birth pool for hire – the pool I’d laboured in with my first son.

We are very pleased to have recently added the fabulous Aquaborn Eco Inflatable Birth Pool to our range (pictured above). We have Aquaborn professional and Aquaborn personal use pools available for purchase in New Zealand, and we are now offering the Aquaborn professional birth pool for hire along with the others in our ‘hire pool’ – Birth Pool in a Box, la bassine and Electra. The Aquaborn birth pools can be purchased via the Aquabub website. For hire enquiries see the contact us page on the Aquabub website for our email address.

Best wishes

Storchenweige - Louise Bio Turquoise (Organic)

We are very excited to announce that we have been confirmed as the new New Zealand distributor of the premium quality baby wraps – Storchenwiege. And we’re giving one away to one lucky person!

The Storchenwiege® sling was developed and tested alongside midwives and babywearing experts. The weave of the sling is what ensures it can be tied stably and in a way that is good for your baby’s health – supporting their bodies in an anatomically correct way which is so important for their spine and hip development. It is made of strong threads of 100% cotton woven lengthwise and crosswise, creating diagonal elasticity. The sling is shrink-resistant and can be washed at up to 60°C, but should not be put in the tumble-dryer.

Storchenwiege® baby slings are regularly checked by an independent testing institute. The cotton yarns are also certified pursuant to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100, which ensures they contain no harmful substances and they are repeatedly inspected during production. The controlled-production dyes used are non-toxic and contain no heavy metals. These qualities make Storchenwiege the perfect fit for the Aquabub range of natural parenting products!

Would you like the chance to win a Storchenwiege wrap sling in your favourite colour and size? Entry is simple and can be done as follows:

Auckland Sling Walk – the video!!!

Back in September I wrote about International Babywearing Week 2009 and the events we were going to be supporting. One event over that week was a ‘Sling Walk’ I’d organised and asked a friend to capture some video footage as we walked around a Mall for a bit then on to a Park down the road. I have finally found time (or rather made time!) to get the footage edited and made a video of our walk. I hope you will enjoy it! It’s the first time I’ve done any video editing!!

Examples of a Mei Tai (Kozy Carrier and a home-made Mei Tai), Soft-structured carrier (Manduca) and wraps including a Vatanai Wrap in Maruyama colourway feature in the video.

International Babywearing Week 2009 – we had a blast in Auckland!

It’s been a couple of weeks now but I want to share a little of what we got up to to help celebrate International Babywearing Week 2009.

Of course we ran a special on Kozy Carrier – the gold standard in mei tai style carriers, and Bear Hug Baby super comfy ring slings.

We attended the Sling Expo on the Friday, organised by Slingbabies , a non-profit babywearing advocacy group, which was a great success. It was a fun family day with a sausage sizzle and bouncy castle for the kids. The sling vendor’s enjoyed showing their wares and helping visitors try out some slings, and the Slingbabies sling library was well showcased too. Pictured below is my husband Duncan (not long before he went and sizzled some sausages on the bbq), wearing our almost three year old son in a Kozy, alongside a visitor who tried her new baby in a Kozy Carrier too.

We participated in the Auckland sling walk on the Sunday, organised by Aquabub and supported by Slingbabies. We were thankful the previously rainy weather took a turn for the better and we enjoyed a dry walk to the park after walking around the Mall and turning a few heads. The kids enjoyed playing at the park afterwards and we all enjoyed a picnic under a tree. A friend volunteered his time to video the walk and he enjoyed the walk with his young family as well. When I’ve had a chance to edit and splice the footage I’ll post the video here!

Here’s a pic of a few of us from the Auckland Sling Walk. That’s me on the left with my nine month old Aiden in my Windy Day Kozy Carrier.

And here’s a pic of me and my boys enjoying relaxing at the park and watching the birds after the walk.

International Babywearing Week 09 Logo

International Babywearing Week commenced today and we are excited to be involved in celebrations in Auckland!

On Friday we will have a stall at the Babywearing Expo organised by non-profit babywearing advocacy group Slingbabies. Slingbabies have been busy fundraising for the last few weeks with raffles, and Trade Me auctions of beautiful products donated by New Zealand vendors including Aquabub. The Cause: to raise money and awareness of the Kangaroo Care initiative. All proceeds will go towards providing special Slingbabies wraps to the Auckland Hospital NICU ward to aid parents and caregivers in providing Kangaroo Care to their precious premature babies. Friday’s Expo will be their grand finale and is set to be a fantastic family day. For more information please visit Slingbabies’ Babywearing Week page.

On Saturday a ‘Slings at the Zoo’ event is scheduled. Babywearers are invited to meet at the Rotunda at 10am at the Auckland Zoo. For more information visit this Facebook event page.

On Sunday the ‘Auckland Sling Walk’ is happening at 11am. Babywearers are invited to meet at St Lukes Mall for a walk around the Mall and down the road to the final destination, Rocket Park. This walk is going to be videoed and participants invited to order their copy of the DVD at the end of the walk. All proceeds from the sale of the walk DVD will go towards the Slingbabies Kangaroo Care fundraiser. More information can be found on the Auckland Sling Walk Facebook event page – if you are able to join us please rsvp on the event page and share the event with your friends and family.

I will leave you with a video I found on YouTube a few weeks ago. This is what a group of babywearers did in The Netherlands last year to celebrate International Babywearing Week 2008. This video inspired me to organise this year’s Auckland Sling Walk.
