Snowflakes on snow-capped mountains – our Christmas baking!!

In my last post I shared the baking tools I’d found over at Little Cookies. And here’s how our Christmas baking turned out!!

First the cookies were cut out, baked and decorated with a blue candy writer – these were the snowflakes. It took a bit of trial and error to get the candy writer the correct temperature, then a learning curve to perfect my icing technique (its been a while since I’ve done any piped icing!). In the image below you can see my not so good attempts, and then the better ones top centre and left of the plate.

Here’s a pic of my best effort!

The mountains – aka chocolate muffins, were baked in cupcake papers (pictured in my previous post). Then I dolloped white icing on top for snow, and before the icing set, placed a ‘snowflake’ atop each one. Here they are on the plate . . .

And all wrapped ready for Christmas gifting . . .

The perfectionist in me was very relieved to hear the recipient of this batch, who is a very experienced chef, ask where we’d bought them!! Can’t get a better compliment than that!

I’m looking forward to more adventures in baking this year, especially with my 3yo son, and trying out more baking accessories from Little Cookies online store.

The best Little Cookies this Christmas

This year we decided that we would make some home baking for our neighbours and friends for Christmas. I was delighted to find Little Cookies online store, specialising in cookie cutters and a wide range of baking accessories, with an emphasis on getting children into the kitchen. My three year old enjoys helping in the kitchen so the Little Cookie product range is right up our alley.

I have purchased some cupcake papers like these:

Christmas Snowflake Cupcake Papers

and a small snowflake cookie cutter like this:

Snowflake Mini Cookie Cutter

I plan on making chocolate cupcakes in the snowflake papers, icing them with white icing (for snow) and topping each cupcake with a mini snowflake cookie which I’ll decorate using a blue candy writer.

I also purchased a Christmas tree cookie cutter and a larger snowflake cookie cutter which I will use to cut out cookies, and they will be decorated using red and green candy writers.

I thought some Christmas themed cookie cutters would make great presents for my nephew and nieces, so they will each get two Christmas themed cookie cutters, a red or green candy writer to decorate their biscuits with, and I have printed out the Vanilla Biscuits recipe to include with the gifts (the recipe is shared on the Little Cookies website for customers to try).

Little Cookies has a lovely range of Christmas themed cookie cutters, cupcake papers, sprinkles and more, perfect for making your Christmas baking special, or for gifting to friends and family.

The Little Cookies range also takes care of many other themes perfect for birthdays and any other special celebration. They will even be great to use for themed activities with children – for example the seaside themed cookie cutters. I have some of these on my wishlist and it will be fun to bake biscuits with these after trips to the beach this summer (or to have some seaside themed biscuits packed in with the beach picnic!).

We’ll be making our Christmas cupcakes and Christmas cookies this week so I’ll share pix of our finished creations when they are done.
